Use the search strategies below to combine your basic concepts in journal/database search boxes.

Operator Description Example
AND Each source contains all keywords income AND hunger

Google Scholar: income hunger
“Quotation marks” Each source contains the exact phrase “food insecurity”
OR Each source contains at least one keyword “food insecurity” OR “food security”
(Parentheses) Group and combine keywords (“food insecurity” OR “food security”) AND income
NOT Each source does not contain the specified keywords “food insecurity” NOT seniors
Asterisk (*) Each source includes variations of the keyword famil*

Finds: family, families, etc.
